There is a further development in the case of a Lincoln County toddler who died after being pinned beneath an electric cook stove at a home in Branchland.
2-year-old Chevy Waughtel was climbing on the stove when it toppled onto him. Waughtel died from his injuries in the hospital Monday.
Kentucky State Police arrested his grandmother, 45 year old Pearl Christian, and her fiancé, 38 year old Byron Morrison at a funeral home in Raceland Kentucky where the child’s funeral was about to be conducted.
Troopers say Christian and Morrison were both home at the time of the incident but asleep in another room. The suspects say it was an accident. Police have charged the couple with child neglect resulting in death and being a fugitive in another state.
Both Christian and Morrison are in the Greenup County Detention Center. West Virginia State Police will make arrangements to extradite the pair back to the state.
