West Virginia Freedom Festival Returns For Summer 2017
Owen Wells of The Logan Banner reports that after a year away, the West Virginia Freedom Festival will return to the streets of Logan this July 6, 7 and 8.
Logan Mayor Serafino Nolletti and City Clerk Amber Viars say they are grateful the city has the chance to revive the festival.
Viars and Nolletti explained the festival was started to draw people to downtown Logan and to give local families a chance to stay in the county and still have summer fun.
Like previous years, the festival will feature a full carnival, two musical stages, dozens of vendors, contests, a block party, car and motorcycle show, military salute and fireworks display.
Gambill Amusements will return to the festival with full carnival for all three days of the festival.
AC/DC tribute band Thunderstorm and Journey tribute band Resurrection will join country act Mark Wills as the main entertainment for the festival at the Coalfield Jamboree Theater.
Two ground acts will also be on hand at the festival.
The world’s last known traveling oddities show, World of Wonders and the magic of Kid Davey will be available for free throughout the festival.
A raft of 18 local bands will also grace the stages at festival and the Coalfield Jamboree.
A wrestling show and tribute to the coal industry are set for July 6.
The car and motorcycle show from the Blue Knights Motorcycle Group and military salute will occur July 7.
July 8 will feature two fireworks displays, which will be visible throughout downtown.
Nolletti and Viars added sponsors and vendors for the festival are still be sought.
