DAYTONA BEACH, FLA.   A 17-point halftime deficit was too much for the Chapmanville Lady Tigers to overcome as they fell to Archer (Georgia), 49-33, Saturday evening in the semifinals of the 34th annual Daytona Beach Sunshine Classic at Warner Christian Academy.

Archer led 20-7 after one quarter and stretched its lead to 30-13 at halftime.

Despite the slow start, Chapmanville coach Kristina Gore was pleased with her Lady Tigers' performance against a school with one of the top schools in Georgia.

Archer (13-1) has won 12 straight games, was held to its second lowest point total of the season, and lowest point total in a win, will face Stone Memorial (Tennessee) in the championship of the Daytona Beach Sunshine Classic Monday afternoon at 3 p.m. at Atlantic High School.

Archer, who hails from Lawrenceville, Georgia has a student population of 3,314, entered Saturday's game having scored 60 points or more in eight of 12 games, and 70 or more in five of those eight.

"We did really well, had some mistakes in the first half that hurt us," Gore said. "Got down by 17, did a great job in the second half, (and), lost by 16."

Averi Neal, one of seven players with four points or more, led Archer with 10 points. Taliya Smith and Braalyn Whitehead each had eight points, Mariah Brown seven, and Kyndall Collins, Saniya Sharper and Cameron Wade four each.

Daizi Farley led Chapmanville with 12 points. Haley Fleming had 10 and Brooke Christian nine.

Chapmanville (5-3) will play Northshore (Louisiana) for third place Monday afternoon at 3 p.m. at Warner Christian Academy.
