51st Anniversary Of Marshall Plane Crash This Sun.



Sunday is the fifty-first anniversary of Southern Airways Flight 932 crash that killed all onboard including Marshall University Thundering Herd players, coaches and staff.


The Herd was returning from a game at East Carolina on November 14, 1970.


This year marks the fiftieth anniversary of the ‘Young Thundering Herd,’ a team made up of mostly underclassmen who took the field in the fall of 1971 for Marshall. Banners displaying photos of the Young Thundering Herd are now on display around the Memorial Student Center Plaza.


Mark Miller, a member of the 1971 team will be the keynote speaker at the ceremony Sunday at 2 p.m. According to a news release from the university, Miller will share how the 1970 Marshall plane crash impacted his life


On Saturday, the current Marshall football team will honor the 75 souls lost onboard in a pregame ceremony before taking on UAB at 3:30 p.m. from Joan C. Edwards Stadium.


The team and coaches will be wearing black and all fans attending the game are asked to wear black.
