Adkins, Brumfield homer to lead top-ranked Lady Wildcats to 9-1 win over Lady Skyhawks

LOGAN Myleigh Adkins and Ashlin Brumfield homered, and top-ranked Logan secured home field advantage in the Class AA Region IV Section II tournament with a 9-1 mercy rule win over seventh-ranked Scott in five innings Thursday evening at Bea Orr Field.


Brumfield had a solo home run in the first inning and Adkins added a two-run shot as part of a seven-run second inning.


Adkins allowed one run on three hits, striking out eight, walking three and hitting one in five innings.


Scott had four errors, leading to eight unearned runs for Logan. The Lady Skyhawks committed two errors in the Lady Wildcats seven run second inning.


Barker was charged with eight runs, only one earned in 1 2/3 innings. The Lady Skyhawks scored their lone run on Barker's double in the top of the first inning.


Brumfield's solo home run over the center field fence with two outs in the bottom of the first tied it at 1-1.


Lena Setser scored on an error to start the seven-run second inning outburst to give Logan a 2-1 lead.


Lacy Curry was hit by the pitch with the bases loaded to make it 3-1, Laurn Adkins followed with an RBI grounder, that was misplayed, to give the Lady Wildcats a 4-1 lead.


Brumfield grounded out to the pitcher to increase Logan's lead to 5-1, Curry scored on a passed ball and Myleigh Adkins snuck a two-run home run inside the foul pole down the left field line for an 8-1 lead.


In the bottom of the fifth, courtesy runner Daisy Tomblin scored the game ending run on a wild pitch after Emilee Mullins led off the inning with a single.


Caitlyn Esbrandt and Alysa Shultz each had a double for Scott.


Mullins had two hits for the Lady Wildcats.
