AMHERSTDALE The Buffalo Creek Public Service District issued an alert regarding water consumption as drought conditions persist across the state.
A press release issued Tuesday asks customers of the Buffalo Creek PSD to conserve water. PSD General Manager Herby Pruitt said the ongoing drought is making it difficult for the utility service to pump water.
Pruitt is requesting that customers refrain from activities such as filling swimming pools, running sprinkler systems and washing cars for the time being.
Any questions can be forwarded to the Buffalo Creek PSD at 304 – 583 – 6586.
Buffalo Creek is currently experiencing what the National Integrated Drought Information System (NIDIS) refers to as “hydrological drought.” That’s when conditions are so dry that water levels in streams, reservoirs and groundwater are impacted. The U.S. Drought Monitor, a service of NIDIS, reports 99.4 percent of West Virginia is experiencing some form of drought conditions, with over half of the state registered under D3 – or extreme drought. That includes all of Boone, Lincoln and Cabell Counties as well as most parts of the counties of Logan, Wayne and Wyoming.
