CHAPMANVILLE A man died Tuesday night in Logan County from a hit by a train.
According to a press release from the Logan County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a call around 10:30 p.m. Tuesday night in the Chapmanville area.
Logan Chief Deputy Michael LaFauci said 42-year- old Darrell George Freeman died from his injuries.
Officers reviewed video footage from the CSX locomotive, and Freeman was seen walking in front of the train. According to the release, the conductor attempted to get Freeman’s attention and initiate an emergency stop. Police said Freeman continued to stand in the path of the train and was fatally struck. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
CSX will be conducting its own investigation.
