CHARLESTON Chapmanville sophomore right fielder Brooke Christian was named Class AA second-team all-state by the West Virginia Sports Writers Association.
Christian hit .419 for the Lady Tigers this season with four home runs. She slugged .779 and had a .524 on-base percentage from the left side of the plate.
Senior second basemen/shortstop Emma Muncy and sophomore shortstop/pitcher Chloe Murphy were named honorable mention.
Muncy batted. 406 with three home runs, slugged .688 and had a .557 on-base percentage while Murphy hit .329 with six home runs, a .635 slugging percentage and a .505 on-base percentage.
In the circle, Murphy was 5-3 with three saves to go along with a 1.48 earned run average, 100 strikeouts and just 16 walks this season.
Chapmanville finished the season with a 20-8 record and was ranked ninth in the final West Virginia MetroNews Softball Coaches Poll.
Winfield’s Maci Boggess, who helped lead Winfield to its first-ever Class AA softball championship, was named captain of the first team. Boggess’s teammates, outfielder Georgia Moulder and catcher Chloe Kimble, join her on the first team.
Class AA runner-up Herbert Hoover placed two players on the first team with catcher Sydney Bright and utility player Josi Fix named as the Lady Huskies representatives.
State tournament qualifiers, Oak Glen and Independence, and second ranked Logan each placed two players on the first team. Pitcher Lizzie Kell and infielder Sydney Brown represent the Golden Bears while pitcher Delaney Buckland and outfielder Kendall Martin were the Patriots representatives and outfielder Taylor Noe and utility player Myleigh Adkins represent Logan on the first team.
Lincoln’s Delaney Haller was named as a pitcher while Lewis County’s Courtney Boggs, Bluefield’s Maddy Lawson and Roane County’s Lacy Mitchell rounded out the first team infield.
Tayler Likens of Keyser rounded out the catching position and rounding out the utility positions were Kayley Bane of Wyoming East and Scott’s Tatum Halley.
