LOGAN It’s a spook-tacular month for the City of Logan.
This weekend, the City of Logan will be showing the movie “It” at the green space in front of the state building downtown. The film is scheduled to start at six o’ clock Saturday night and it follows immediately after the city’s clown run.
Logan City Councilmember Brandon Picklesimer has been working to organize the city’s events both this coming weekend and throughout the month of October. On Thursday’s edition of “What’s Your Opinion,” he said the clown run is open for anyone who wants to register.
“The clown run will begin at dark. Registration begins at five – we’ll be there in the state building – that’s when the inflatables and everything will start. All of the vendors will be there starting at five. So, you can come and register – registration is free for this,” said Picklesimer.
Anyone who wants to register for the run, according to Picklesimer, will have a choice between two roles: runner or clown. Runners will be fitted with four flags and will have to navigate a course set up through the streets of downtown Logan. The clowns will be set up at different points along the course. The goal for the clowns is to steal the runners’ flags before they reach the finish line. While the event is meant to be a fun night out for participants, there’s also a financial incentive. Picklesimer told WVOW’s Aaron Stone that cash prizes will be offered for the top three runners and the top two clowns.
“The first-place runner will win a thousand dollars, second place is five hundred, third place is two fifty. First place clown – whoever gets the most flags off of the runners – is seven hundred and fifty dollars and second place is two fifty,” he said. “You don’t have to be the fastest runner to win this. If you lose all of your flags, you can’t win. You’re done. For every flag that you lose, you lose a minute off of your time, so if you make it back and you lose three out of four, you lose three minutes off your time.”
The clown run is a sort of continuation of an event that first kicked off last year, according to Picklesimer, who said last year’s zombie run proved to be a fun experience, but the runners faced a real challenge.
“Last year was our first year that we did it, and actually nobody made it back with all their flags, so we ended up having to go with the top three runners. Every flag was taken throughout the event.”
Events continue through every weekend in October, including a scarecrow making contest as well as a free-to-the-public pumpkin carving night featuring a showing of the movie “Halloweentown.”
