The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources confirmed 157 new cases Friday morning. The Mountain State currently has 2,849 cases.
The state is still leading the nation in the rate of spread at 1.48. The next closest state for spread of the virus is Wisconsin with a rate of 1.22.
Boone County moved to the orange category on Friday’s COVID-19 color-coded county alert map. Boone’s rolling average of cases jumped to 13.32. Logan, Mingo and Wayne counties make up the rest of the orange category counties in the coalfields. Monongalia County is the only “red” county in the state.
Saturday’s map will determine what counties are permitted to conduct in-person classes next week.
