Judge Kelly Gilmore Codispoti was sworn in as the new Seventh Circuit Court Judge Friday morning in downtown Logan.
The swearing in ceremony was conducted the town’s welcome center gazebo where the old Sayer building once resided.
The oath of office was administered by by Logan’s Chief Judge Josh Butcher.
A large crowd gathered in the grassy space of town to witness the ceremony.
“I’m excited to begin my duties as a circuit judge,” Codispoti said. “I am humbled by the turn out here today. I appreciate each and everyone of you.”
Codispoti promised the crowd to continue the legacy of “good work in the circuit court.”
Codispoti previously served as a family court judge in Logan County before her appointment by Governor Jim Justice to succeed Judge Eric O’Briant following his retirement. She served as a family court judge in Logan since its inception in 2001.
Codispoti’s appointment makes her the first female circuit court judge in Logan County. She will have to run for election in 2024
Applications are being sought for appointment to her former position on the Logan County Family Court
