MAN Morgan Cooper hurled a one-hitter as Class A No. 6 Man defeated Buffalo (Putnam) 3-0 Wednesday evening at the Man High School Softball Complex.
Morgan Cooper turned in a dominant performance in the circle to lead Class A No. 6 Man to a 3-0 win over Buffalo (Putnam) Wednesday evening at the Man High School Softball Complex.
Cooper allowed just one hit in seven innings, walked one and struck out 17 Lady Bison batters.
Kelsey Brock’s two-out single in the fifth inning broke up Cooper’s bid for her sixth career no-hitter.
The game was scoreless until Mattie Carroll blasted a solo home run over the center field fence to give Man a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth inning.
The Lady Hillbillies tacked on two insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth. Jacklynn Barnett led off the sixth with a solo home run over the center field fence to increase Man’s lead to 2-0. Carroll followed Barnett’s home run with a double and came around to score on Peyton Lusk’s RBI single to right to give the Lady Hillbillies a 3-0 lead.
Carroll finished 3 for 3 and was a triple shy of hitting for the cycle. Barnett was 1 for 3 with a home run, Lusk 1 for 3 with a double and Cooper went 1 for 3 for the Lady Hillbillies.
Kimmie Dillman allowed three runs on six hits, walked two and struck out six over five innings in the circle for Buffalo. Dillman was tagged with the loss. Brock struck out two in one inning of relief.
Buffalo fell to 6-5 with the loss while Man improved to 3-1 with the win.
The Lady Hillbillies return to action Friday evening at St. Mays. Man will also take part in a doubleheader on Saturday facing Williamstown at noon and Cameron at 2 p.m.
