West Virginia State School Superintendent Clayton Burch announced today Logan County student athletes may participate in sports this weekend. The announcement comes two days before the department of education’s updated school alert map is scheduled for release.
Last Saturday, the school re-entry map released by education leaders had Logan in the “gold” category.
On Tuesday, Logan County Board of Education members voted unanimously to begin the blended learning model on Monday. The board’s decision essentially gave extracurricular events the nod to begin on Monday depending on the county’s color this weekend.
Superintendent Burch said sports may commence because of Logan’s current map category on the school alert map despite not having in-person learning until Monday.
Thursday’s Department of Health and Human Resources map has Logan in the “orange” category.
