LOGAN Logan opened the fourth quarter with a 16-0 run and outscored Wayne 22-8 in the fourth quarter en route to a 66-49 win Tuesday night at the Willie Akers Arena.
Matt Hatfield started the fourth quarter with a 3-point play for the Wildcats. Three different Wildcats scored at least four points in the quarter and Logan shot 9 of 12 from the free throw line.
Julius Clancy made pair of free throws to put Logan up 60-41 with 3:46 to play before Wayne’s Peyton Marcum ended the Wildcats run with a short jumper with 3:31 to play.
Clancy led four Wildcats in double figures with 16 points. Cole Blankenship had 14, McCormick Ilderton finished with 11 and Ivan Miler 10 for Logan.
Cooper Adkins scored 16 points and Isaac Meddings finished with 13 points for Wayne.
Logan jumped out to a 12-3 lead before Wayne answered with an 8-0 run to cut the deficit to 12-11 after one quarter of play.
The Wildcats lead reached double digits, 23-13, in the second quarter before the Pioneers responded with a five-point mini run to cut the deficit in half, 23-18, after a basket from Adkins, who had 10 points in the first half.
Logan finished the half on an 8-3 run and led 29-21 at halftime. The Wildcats scored the first basket of the third quarter to take a 10-point lead, but the Pioneers went on a 13-4 run to cut the deficit to one, 35-34.
Zane Adkins had eight points, Peyton Marcum and Ronnie Staley had five points each and Brayden Harless two points for the Pioneers.
Matt Hatfield finished with seven points, Zayden Sherod six and Devin Maynard two points for the Wildcats.
Wayne fell to 1-2, while Logan improved to 2-0.
