CHAPMANVILLE Joey Gollihue scored 27 points to lead Class AAA co-No. 7 Chapmanville to a 67-50 win over Huntington Expression Prep Tuesday night at the Danny Godby Gymnasium.
Gollihue, who was held scoreless in the first quarter, knocked down 11 field goals including five 3-pointers as Chapmanville rebounded from a 63-52 loss at then Class AA No. 7 Westside Friday night.
Chapmanville scored the first five points and led 8-2 following a Benji Adkins free throw with 3:52 to play in the opening quarter before Expression Prep settled in offensively to finish the quarter on a 10-2 run to take a 12-10 lead after one quarter.
Mitchell Cox knocked down a pair of free throws to extend the run to 14-2 and give the Lions a 16-10 lead with 6:43 to play before halftime before Gollihue caught fire in the second quarter.
Gollihue scored his first points with 5:51 to go, knocking down the first of three second quarter 3-pointers to cut the gap to three, 16-13.
The lone Chapmanville senior would score nine points during an 11-3 run and his third 3-pointer gave the Tigers a two-point lead, 21-19, that they would not relinquish.
Chapmanville ended the quarter on an 11-2 run, outscoring the Lions 20-9 in the second frame to take a 30-21 halftime lead. Gollihue scored 13 points in the frame.
Expression Prep wouldn't go quietly as they trimmed the deficit to three points, 32-29, on a layup from Jonah Ogbu with 5:35 remaining in the third quarter.
The Lions would get no closer as Chapmanville closed the quarter on a six-point run and led 47-38 after three quarters. The Tigers would lead by as many 21 in the fourth quarter as they used a pair of mini runs to pull away from the visitors from Cabell County.
Rasheed Morrison led the Lions (9-16) with 15 points and was the only player in double figures. Cox, Ogbu and Dual Tharjath each finished with eight points.
Keaton Terry finished with 17 points and Colton Brock scored 14 off the bench for the Tigers.
Chapmanville (13-6) travels to Class AA No. 2 Wheeling Central Friday.
