MAN The Man Hillbillies have moved into the top 10 of the Class A playoffs ratings released by the West Virginia Secondary Schools Activities Commission Tuesday afternoon.
After defeating winless Class AA Wyoming East, the Hillbillies jumped two spots to the ninth position and are currently tied with the Cameron Dragons.
The Hillbillies are the highest ranked one-loss team in Class A and have won four straight games after a season opening loss to Logan on August 25.
The Logan Wildcats suffered their first loss of the season last Friday on the road at Winfield and dropped three spots to ninth in Class AA while the Chapmanville Tigers fell five spots to 14th after a loss to No. 2 Scott.
Nineteen schools remain unbeaten in West Virginia. Twelve of those 19 are in Class A with five in Class AA and two in Class AAA.
The Cardinal Conference continues its strong showing in the Class AA ratings with five ranked schools including three in the top nine.
Scott, the lone unbeaten school in the Cardinal Conference, is ranked second with Winfield sixth, Logan ninth, Chapmanville 14th and Herbert Hoover 17th.
Williamstown jumped from three to one in the Class A ratings replacing Wheeling Central, who held the top spot for the previous two weeks.
Parkersburg South remains at No. 1 in Class AAA and North Marion continues to hold down the top spot in Class AA.
In Class AAA, Spring Valley rose to second with Martinsburg third, Musselman fourth and Hurricane fifth. The rest of the top 10 has Huntington and Morgantown tied for sixth, Bridgeport eighth, Cabell Midland ninth and Woodrow Wilson 10th.
Scott is ranked second in Class AA with Independence third, Frankfort fourth, Roane County fifth, Winfield sixth, Clay County and Keyser tied for seventh, Logan ninth and Nicholas County rounding out the top 10.
Wheeling Central is second in the state’s small school division. Petersburg and Wahama share the third spot with Tucker County fifth, Greenbrier West and Van tied for sixth, Doddridge County eighth and Cameron and Man tied for ninth.
