MAN Ashanti Bonds scored a game-high 18 points leading Mount View to a 39-30 win over Man Friday night at the Man Memorial Fieldhouse.
Man cut a 13-point first half deficit to two late in the fourth quarter, but Megan McCoy missed a pair of free throws with 1:26 to play. Aireona Martin ended a nearly 10-minute field goal drought with 1:11 remaining and the Lady Golden Knights closed the quarter on a 7-0 run to register its first win of the season.
The Lady Hillbillies (1-1) struggled from the foul line, connecting on just nine of 21 attempts, and was held without a field goal in the second quarter.
The game was tied at 7 after one quarter, but the Lady Golden Knights outscored Man 15-2 in the second quarter to take a 22-9 halftime lead.
Man started the third quarter with three straight field goals to trim the deficit to seven, 22-15, following Emilee Deel's jumper with 5:40 to play.
Man trailed 32-26 after three quarters and pulled to within two, 32-30, on Deel's basket with 3:30 remaining.
Fighting foul trouble for much of the game, Mount View was able to overcome the loss of Bonds and Mi'Lysha Martin, both of whom fouled out. Bonds fouled out after picking up a personal foul and technical foul with 1:03 to play in the third and Martin fouled out 57 seconds into the fourth.
Deel, McCoy, and Braylee Thompson led Man with eight points each. Taylor Wheatley scored six for the Lady Hillbillies.
