DAYTONA BEACH, FLA. Chapmanville overcame a slow first quarter start in its 48-36 win over Delsa Regional (NJ) Friday afternoon on the first day of the 34th annual Daytona Beach Sunshine Classic at Warner Christian Academy.
The Lady Tigers will take on Archer (Georgia) at 6 p.m. Saturday evening in the winner's bracket semifinals.
Archer (12-1) won two games Friday, defeating St. Benard's (CA) 56-21 in the second game of the tournament before defeating North Bullitt (KY) 67-40 Friday evening.
Tied 5-5 after one quarter, Chapmanville outscored the Crusaders 12-10 in the second quarter and led 17-15 at halftime.
Daizi Farly and Brooke Christian knocked down back-to-back 3-pointers to fuel a 6-2 run to start the third quarter to give the Lady Tigers a 23-17 lead.
With 2:04 remaining in the third, Farley found Haley Fleming cutting to the basket for a 30-19 lead. Fleming's basket was part of a 7-2 run that stretched a four-point lead to 11 points, which was the biggest lead for Chapmanville.
Chapmanville's lead reached as much as 15 points in the fourth quarter.
Christian finished with a game-high 17 points. Fleming had 11 and Tayli Smith finished with six for Chapmanville, who improved to 5-2 with the victory.
Kayleigh Brandt led Delsea Regional with 11 points. Maura Madden and Nicole Norris each had six points.
Delsea Regional (1-2) will face St. Benard's Academy, California in Saturday's consolation round.
