LOGAN Logan High School seniors Addyson Amick, Peyton Butcher, Haller Crouse and Bam Mosby combined for 49 points leading the fifth-ranked and second-seeded Lady Wildcats to a 67-16 victory over seventh-seeded Clay County Friday night in the Class AA Region IV tournament at the Willie Akers Arena.
Amick scored a game-high 16 points, Crouse added 15, Mosby scored 10 and Butcher finished with eight points as Logan moved one step closer to a state tournament berth.
The Lady Wildcats (16-6), winners of nine of 10, will host third-seeded Buffalo Wednesday night in one of two Region IV co-finals with the winner advancing to the state tournament next week at the Charleston Coliseum & Convention Center.
Buffalo played in the state tournament three years ago, while Logan hasn't been since winning the Class AAA championship in 2021.
Logan got off to a fast start, building a 17-0 lead over Clay County in the first quarter before settling for a 20-4 lead after one quarter of play. The Lady Wildcats continued their hot start into the second quarter, outscoring the Lady Panthers (1-20), 22-3, in the frame and took a 42-7 lead into the locker room at halftime.
Clay County turned the ball over 23 times in the first half, finishing with 38 turnovers for the game, many of those turnovers Logan was able to capitalize on and stretch its advantage out in the first half.
Logan outscored Clay County 25-9 in the second half and held its second straight opponent to 20 points or less.
Kenzie Corwell and Addison Taylor led Clay County with three points each. Ivy Beard, Peyton Johnson, Rylee Murphy, Layla Parker and Skiley Wilmoth each had two points.
Jayden Meade chipped in with nine points off the bench, Kayden Compton had six, Camryn Harvey scored two and Dawna Blankenship had one point for Logan.
