GRAFTON Hadley Horne and Kenna Keener combined for 50 points as the Grafton Lady Bobcats opened the season with a 61-45 victory over the Logan Lady Wildcats Saturday afternoon at Grafton High School.

Horne scored 27 points and Keener added 23 points as the duo combined to make 17 of the Lady Bearcats 19 field goals.

Halle Crouse scored 21 points and Addyson Amick had 14 to lead Logan.

Logan trailed 2-0 early but scored four unanswered points to take a 4-2 lead in the first quarter before Grafton closed the quarter on a 14-3 run to take a 16-7 lead after one quarter.

The Lady Bearcats stretched the lead to 17 at halftime and led by as many as 25 in the third quarter before the Lady Wildcats cut the deficit to nine in the fourth quarter.

“Got to play and learn,” Logan coach Kevin Gertz said. “Experience wise, it’s the youngest team I’ve ever had.”

With no seniors on the Logan roster, Gertz was proud of his young team’s ability to claw back and not quit.

“Loved the fight our kids showed, (it was a) very hostile environment and we didn’t quit,” Gertz said. “Was down as much as 25 and cut it to nine and that I was very proud of.”

Logan was whistled for 25 fouls and had two players foul out in the season opening loss.

“We stayed in foul trouble the entire game,” Gertz said. “We have to defend without fouling and that’s something we will learn as we go.”

Jazalynn Ray had five points, Kambree Delaney scored three points, Kelsey Masie two points and Lillie Crimm one for Grafton.

Payton Butcher added five points, Michel’A Swan had three points and Bam Mosby scored two points for Logan.
