Lady Wildcats survive Redwomen rally, prevail in extra innings

KINGSTON, Tenn.   Daisy Tomblin's sacrifice bunt proved to be the game winner helping Class AA No. 1 Logan to an 11-9 victory over Rock Hill (Ohio) Tuesday afternoon in the Ripken Experience at Isotopes Park.


Trailing 7-3 entering the bottom of the seventh, the Redwomen (5-5) scored four runs to send the game to extra innings.


Charlee Long tripled, Abby Schug walked and Alaina Wilds was hit by a pitch to bring Rock Hill within a run at 7-6. A wild pitch brought in Savannah Kidd with the tying run allowing the Redwomen to tie the score at 7-7.


Using the international tie breaker rule, Lean Setser was placed on second base and advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored on Tomblin's sacrifice bunt in the top of the eighth inning to give Logan (16-4) an 8-7 lead.


Myleigh Adkins added a two-run triple and Ashlin Brumfield had a sacrifice fly to put the Lady Wildcats up 11-7.


Rock Hill got a pair of run scoring ground outs in the bottom of the eighth from Long and Samantha Bamer to cut the deficit to 11-9, but Setser struck out Kidd for the final out.


Earlier in the afternoon, Logan outlasted Akron St. Vincent/St. Mary, 3-2, in 10 innings.


Adkins tripled and drove in three runs and Brumfield hit her sixth home run of the season, an inside the park home run to give Logan a 2-0 lead in the third and drove in three runs.


Bridgette Stapleton had two hits, scored three runs and drove in one run for Rock Hill. Long had one hit and two RBIs, Schug had one hit and one RBI and Bamer and Winds each had one RBI for the Redwomen.


Emilee Mullins had two hits including a double and drove in two runs and Lacy Curry had two hits and scored two runs for Logan. Lauren Adkins had two hits, and Addison Richardson, who had missed the last 17 games, returned from the injury list and had one hit and one RBI.


Setser (2-1) allowed eight runs on five hits in eight innings with 10 strikeouts and five walks to earn the win in the circle for Logan.


Isabelle Melvin took the loss for Rock Hill. Melvin allowed 10 runs on 10 hits in eight innings with 13 strikeouts and three walks.


Logan is back in action Wednesday afternoon against St. Vincent/St. Mary at 1 p.m.
