Lewis County plates nine in seventh, pulls away from Logan, 13-5

MYRTLE BEACH, SC   Brayden Carder hit a grand slam and Joey Aman had a solo home run in Lewis County’s nine-run seventh inning as the Minutemen beat Logan 13-5 at Loris High School.

 

Lewis County, a 2023 Class AA state tournament semifinalist, led 4-1 before breaking the game open in the seventh inning scoring nine runs on eight hits. In addition to Aman and Carder’s home runs, the Minutemen got run scoring singles from Drew Clayton, Joel Good, Trenton Hunt and Leo Jones in the inning,

 

Hunt earned the win for Lewis County after allowing four runs on seven hits in 6 1/3 innings striking out six and walking two.

 

Ryder Aman gave Lewis County a 1-0 lead in the top of the first when he grounded into a fielder’s choice. Logan tied it in the bottom of the first when Alton Ellis hit into a fielder’s choice allowing Crew Blankenship to score.

 

The Minutemen plated three runs in the top of the second to take a 4-1 lead. Aman started the scoring with an RBI fielder’s choice and Hunt added a two-run double to extend the Minutemen lead.

 

Logan scored four times in the bottom of the seventh. Luke Blankenship and Gage Hensley walked with the bases loaded, Jaxon McClung grounded into a fielder’s choice and Ivan Miller scored on an error in the inning.

 

Miller suffered the loss for Logan despite striking out 10 Minutemen in five innings. He allowed four runs on six hits, walked two and hit one batter.

 

Jones went 3-for-4 with a double, two runs and one RBI for Lewis County. Carder was 2-for-4 with four RBI and two runs, Hunt went 2-for-4 with a double and three RBI and Aman 2-for-5 with a double, home run, three runs and two runs driven in for the Minutemen.

 

McClung was 2-for-4 with one RBI to lead Logan at the plate and Chase Hatfield went 1-for-4 with a double. Tanner Akers, Crew Blankenship, Miller and Jayce Wolfe each had one hit and Luke Blankenship, Ellis and Hensley each had an RBI for the Wildcats.


Lewis County improved to 5-2 with the win while Logan lost for the fourth straight game and is 2-4 on the year.

 

Logan is back in action Wednesday against Morehead (NC). The Panthers defeated county rival Man, 17-4, in six innings and are 10-0 on the season.
