HUNTINGTON Lincoln County man found guilty of gun crime by federal jury.
Two days of trial and a federal jury convicted 53-year-old Michael Allen Kenney, of Hamlin on the charge of a prohibited person possessing a firearm.
Federal law prohibits a person with a prior felony conviction from possessing a firearm or ammunition.
According to the US Attorney’s Office for the Southern District, on May 17, 2023, Putnam County Sheriff’s Deputies Putnam county sheriff’s deputies responded to a 911 call at a video poker joint in Poca. An officer said he witnessed Kenney retrieve a Ruger 9mm pistol from his waistband. Officers seized the firearm and arrested Kenney.
Kenney knew he lost his right possess a firearm. He was convicted felonies on several occassions. He was convicted for possession of a stolen vehicle in Kanawha County in 2017. He was also convicted of fleeing with reckless indifference in Putnam County in 2014. Moreover, Kenney was convicted in Mason County later-half of 2014 for possessing a firearm.
Kenney is scheduled to be sentenced in February. The maximum is fifteen years, up to three years of supervised release, and a $250,000 fine.
