In high school basketball action, the Logan Wildcats opened their season with a blowout win over their sectional rivals the Scott Skyhawks last night at Willie Akers Arena, 98-64
Logan led wire-to-wire and opened the first quarter with a 25 point barrage on the backs of new Wildcat additions Jackson Tackett and Justin Cogar, who combined for 50 points in their Logan debut.
Logan built a 16 point first-half lead before the Skyhawks came roaring back to cut the Wildcat lead to 44-38 at the half. The second half was all Logan, as the Wildcats continued to attack down low with Tackett and Cogar to outpoint the Skyhawks 27-10 in the quarter. The Runnin' Wildcats continued their assault in the fourth quarter leading by as much as 37 points in their route of the previously undefeated Scott Skyhawks.
Tackett led all scorers with 27 points and Cogar closed the game with 23 points. Scotty Browning added 20 points for Logan in the win.
Reece Carden led Scott with 18 points.
Logan will get back into action Friday night for the start of the King Coal Classic from Willie Akers Arena. The Wildcats will take on North Marion at 7 p.m., and will then host defending Class AAA champions Shady Spring on Saturday at 5 p.m. Both games can be heard right here on WVOW.
