In high school basketball action, the Logan Wildcats took one step forward in their bid to make the state tournament for the first time since 2012, as they knocked off the Wayne Pioneers 67-48 Wednesday night in the sectional semifinals from Willie Akers Arena.
The Wildcats came ready from the outset. Sophomore Scottie Browning scored 14 of his game-high 18 points in the opening eight minutes to give Logan a 20-14 first-quarter lead.
Logan then upped the tempo and forced Wayne into multiple 2nd quarter mistakes and turned turnovers into offense as they closed the first half with a 38-25 lead, The Wildcats slowly edged away from the Pioneers from that point on.
Jarron Glick added 12 points in the win for Logan. Garrett Williamson finished with 11 points and Aiden Slack 10 points in the win.
Logan will now face Lincoln County on Friday night. Lincoln earned a 59-54 win over Scott for the sectional crown.
Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m. from Willie Akers Arena.
