Officer involved shooting in Pike County

COAL RUN A police pursuit Wednesday ended with shots fired.


It all started with a truck stolen from an auto repair shop in Pike County, Kentucky. Officers attempted to stop the vehicle but were unsuccessful. Kentucky troopers deployed spike strips on US 23 near Power Drive in Coal Run.


According to State Police, 51-year-old Jamie Alvin Rife,of Jewel Ridge, Virginia is charged with DUI, theft, fleeing, evading police and wanton endangerment.


According to police, Riffe was taken to Pikeville Medical Center for injuries unrelated to the arrest before taken into custody.


Part of U.S. 23 was closed for officers to investigate.


Coal Run Police requested the Kentucky State Police to investigate the officer-involved shooting.


No further details will be released while the investigation is underway.
