Pair of six-run innings propels Lady Wildcats to 15-1 over Randolph (NY)

MYRTLE BEACH, SC   Class AA co-No. 1 Logan used a pair of six run innings to win its ninth straight Tuesday afternoon in the Grand Strand Softball Classic defeating Randolph (NY) 15-1 in five innings at North Myrtle Beach Park and Sports Complex.


Eight different players had at least one hit, six different players had RBIs, six different players scored at least two runs as Logan scored six runs in the second and third innings.


Kaylie Coleman was 3-for-3 with a double, one RBI and three runs and Ashlin Brumfield went 3-for-3 with a triple, one RBI and two runs to lead Logan at the plate. Harlee Quick had a double, drove in three runs and scored twice and Taylor Noe had one hit and two RBIs.


After a scoreless first, Logan scored six runs in the second inning to jump out to a 6-0 lead. The Lady Wildcats took advantage of various Cardinal miscues, scoring four runs on wild pitches, an error, a passed ball and a dropped third strike.


Brumfield started the scoring with a single to score Quick for a 1-0 lead. Logan added two runs without the benefit of a hit as Brumfield scored on a wild pitch and Lauren Adkins scored on a passed ball to increase the lead to 3-0.


Coleman singled to score Kennedy Brewer making it 4-0. Isabella Propst scored on a dropped third strike and Coleman scored when Quick's fly ball was misplayed by the shortstop.


Emilee Mullins started the scoring in a six-run third with a single to plate Addison Brumfield. Brewer scored on a wild pitch to give Logan an 8-0 lead. Noe's ground out scored Ashlin Brumfield to put Logan ahead 9-0.


Quick doubled to score Coleman and Noe to make it 11-0 and Quick scored on a passed ball to put Logan ahead 12-0 after three innings.


That was more than enough for Logan as Charlie Albright and Myleigh Adkins combined on a three-hitter in the circle.


Adkins started for Logan and tossed one hitless inning striking out one. Albright picked up the win after allowing one run on three hits in four innings of relief. Albright struck out eight.


Logan scored three runs in the fourth inning without the benefit of a hit as Propst scored on an error and Ashlin Brumfield and Coleman scored on a pair of bases loaded walks to surge ahead 15-0.


Nine of Logan's 15 runs scored without the benefit of a hit as the Lady Wildcats took advantage of 10 walks, seven wild pitches, three errors and one hit batter.


Randolph scored its only run in the bottom of the fifth when Isabella Syracuse doubled to score Abigail Pitts.


Syracuse went 2-for-2 with a double and one RBI and Pitts was 1-for-2 with a double and a run scored for Randolph.


Pitts was the losing pitcher after allowing 15 runs - 12 earned - on 12 hits in four innings. She walked eight, issued seven wild pitches, struck out six and hit one batter.


Logan improves to 10-2 and will face Breckinridge County (KY) Thursday morning at 8 a.m. before wrapping up play Friday morning against Jeffersontown (KY).
