The parents and grandmother of a teenage girl with autism are accused of pad-locking the girl in a bedroom allegedly filthy with feces smeared everywhere, according to criminal complaints filed by the Logan County Sheriff's Office.
LOGAN Three arrests have been made in Logan this week following the discovery of an autistic teenager being kept in miserable living conditions.
According to criminal complaints all filed in Logan County Magistrate Court, 32-year-old Tiffany Leigh Moore, 35-year-old Joshua Allen Moore and 58-year-old Cheryl Irene Woody were arrested in the City of Logan on charges of Child Neglect Resulting in Injury and Maltreatment of a Disable Child.
On Monday, Logan County Sheriff’s Deputy Charles Rosser responded to a call for assistance from Child Protective Services. After arriving on scene, Deputy Rosser was told by CPS that they had received an anonymous tip that the Moore’s had been locking their 13-year-old autistic daughter in a bedroom.
After entering the home, the deputy noticed a door in the kitchen area that had been secured with a padlock. When asked about the door, the couple said they didn’t have a key to the lock and that the key was kept by Cheryl Woody, the child’s grandmother and the owner of the home. Woody, who was away from the residence at the time, was called to return to the home with the key to the locked door.
According to the complaints, when Deputy Rosser gained access to the locked room, he reported seeing walls covered in feces. Observing the victim’s bed, he said the mattress was also covered in excrement, which looked like it had been smeared by the child’s hands.
Tiffany and Joshua Moore were arrested Monday and Cheryl Woody’s arrest came the following day. All three are being held at Southwestern Regional Jail on $25,000 cash only bonds.
