WINFIELD Easton Pinkerton ran for a touchdown and threw for another and Aiden Hernandez rushed for one score and caught one touchdown and Winfield earned a hard fought 28-14 win over Chapmanville Friday night at Generals Stadium.
Pinkerton ran for a 4-yard touchdown and threw a 28-yard touchdown pass to Hernandez, who also scored on a 4-yard run in the fourth quarter to give the Generals a 28-14 lead with 1:19 remaining.
Pinkerton’s 4-yard run with 7:20 to play in the opening quarter gave Winfield a 6-0 lead after a failed extra point attempt. On the Generals next possession, Pinkerton hooked up with Hernandez for a 28-yard score and Landon Hall tacked on the two-point conversion for a 14-0 lead with 3:56 to play in the first quarter.
Pinkerton ran for 136 yards on 21 carries and was 5-of-9 passing for 62 yards for Winfield (2-1). Hernandez carried the ball eight times for 48 yards and caught two passes for 33 yards.
Dakota Dalton threw for 106 yards on 10 of 19 passing with one touchdown and two interceptions for Chapmanville (1-2). Andrew Topping hauled in five passes for 74 yards and one touchdown and Jeremy Collins rushed for 48 yards on 10 attempts and one touchdown.
Collins 3-yard touchdown with 6:58 to play before halftime brought the Tigers to within seven points, 14-7, following Jonathan Ferrell’s extra point.
Aiden Tate intercepted a Dalton pass and returned it 13 yards for a touchdown with 9:25 to play in the fourth quarter to give the Generals a 21-7 lead.
Dalton found Topping for a 7-yard touchdown with 6:47 remaining to bring the Tigers back within seven, 21-14.
Winfield will be back in action Friday night as they travel to Wayne while Chapmanville will host Nitro.
