DODGE CITY, Kansas Just days after announcing his resignation as the head coach of the Logan High School boys basketball team, Jeff Williamson has been hired to coach at Dodge City High School in Kansas.

According to a news release from the Dodge City High School Athletic Department, Williamson is the new coach of the Red Demons, pending approval of the next meeting of the Board of Education meeting on Tuesday, April 22

Kansas is familiar territory for Williamson. He was head basketball coach at Garden City High School about fifty miles away from Dodge City. Williamson was also named conference coach of the year at Garden City High School in Kansas shortly before coming to Logan last year and was a state coach of the year finalist in Oklahoma 2021.

In the release, Williamson said he’s excited for the opportunity.

“I can’t wait to begin meeting with players and hosting team camp,” Willamson said. “My vision for Red Demon basketvall is for our team to play with energy, joy, and excellence while working to become the best young men, on and off the court, that we can be.”

Williamson’s fiancé, Jenna Rycek, is also joining the Kanasa school district as a School Psychologist.

Dodge City Athletic Director, Jay Gifford, said Coach Williamson is going to hit the ground running upon his arrival.

“Jeff understands the vision of the athletic department,” Gifford said, “to intentionally develop character in all of our student athletes.”

Williamson has coached on the high school and college level. He served as an assistant coach at his alma mater Salem University and West Virginia Tech.

The resignation comes after a rather successful season with Williamson at the helm. The Wildcats won both sectional and regional championships. Williamson’s Wildcats ended the season ranked number five in Class AAA with a 16-10 season record.

Williamson posted his resignation to his personal Facebook account Thursday after he broke the news to his Wildcats team. Meanwhile in Kansas, near simultaneously, the Red Demons social account made a post welcoming Williamson to the town once called the "Wickedest little city in the west."
