McCONNELL Route 10 at McConnell remains closed following a pair of slides from the mountainside, One worse than the precious slide. A fatality from a motor vehicle accident was reported at the site of the slide Monday morning.
The first slip of the mountain covered one lane of traffic and forced a closure to deal with clean up.
The road was opened and quickly closed again when the second slide covered both lanes of traffic. The slide brought down a tree and knocked power to many residents in the McConnell area.
Logan 911 dispatchers said the road is indefinitely closed until crews can clean-up and safely reopen.
According to Appalachian Power’s outage map, the remaining residents without electricity have an estimated restoration time of eleven o’clock Monday night.
Logan Chief Deputy Mike LaFauci said a motorcycle rider was killed before 5:30 Monday morning at the slide. The rider was on a dirt bike and collided with the tree entangled in the slide.
The body was sent to the Medical Examiner's Office for identification.
