GILBERT Less than 48-hours after a rock slide closed Route 80 near Gilbert, the West Virginia Department of Transportation announced the road is back open.

Logan and Mingo county crews worked through the weekend to get the road back open.

The slide completely shutdown 80 on Friday afternoon around at mile marker 5.17. According to a news release from the DOT, crews used three excavators, a bulldozer and around a dozen dump trucks to clear away the slide.

The slide forced traffic to detour around slide by taking Route 52 to Route 44.

Originally, predictions estimated the road would be closed for weeks.

The road officially opened back to traffic Sunday afternoon.
