The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources (DHHR), Bureau for Family Assistance begin accepting applications for School Clothing Allowance on July first.
Eligible West Virginia children receive $200 vouchers toward the purchasing appropriate school clothing or piece goods for families who sew clothing for their children.
The following groups will automatically receive School Clothing Allowance benefits for each school-age child in the home by the end of June:
Families with school-age children receiving WV WORKS cash assistance automatically receive the allowance. The automatic benefit is also true for parents or guardians of children in foster care. Children between four and eighteen with current school enrollment, receiving Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits, and a household income under 130% of the Federal Poverty Level will also receive the benefit allowance automatically.
Families that benefited from the School Clothing Allowance last year and currently have covered by Medicaid will receive applications by mail.
Applications must be received by July 31, 2022.
