MAN Sherman built a double-digit first quarter lead and picked up a regional win over Man in a battle of Class A ranked Monday night at the Man Memorial Fieldhouse.
Playing without three suspended starters, the co-No. 8 Hillbillies fell behind by 18 points as the 10th-ranked Tide sank six 3-pointers and converted a three-point play to account for 21 of their 27 first quarter points in a 67-46 win over Man.
Trey Lester scored a game-high 14 points to lead a balanced Sherman scoring attack. Elijah Pauley was the only other Tide player in double figures finishing with 11 points, but four others scored at least seven points. Ryan Mollohan and Luke Tagliente each had nine, Logan Buzzard eight and Chase Mills seven.
The Tide led 27-9 after one quarter and extended that lead to as many as 24 points in the second quarter before settling for a 41-19 halftime lead.
Man battled back in the third quarter and closed the gap to 14 points, 45-31, on Justin Mullins' 3-pointer prompting Sherman to call timeout.
It would be as close as Man would get as Sherman responded with a 14-4 run to end the third quarter and take a 59-34 lead.
Man, never got closer than the final score as Sherman led by as many as 31 points before the Hillbillies closed on a 10-0 run.
Mullins had a team-high 13 points for the Hillbillies. Bryson Wingler had seven, Connor Booth six and Landon Cantrell, Micah Goble and Josh Spriggs each had five points.
Sherman (10-7) will host Montcalm Friday night, while Man (11-7), who lost its fourth straight game, will look to get back into the win column Wednesday night when they host River View.
