Softball Roundup: Man’s Cooper perfect in win over Mingo Central, Logan rolls in five over Pikeville

NEWTOWN Morgan Cooper pitched a six-inning perfect game and Zoey Jackson and Melody Rozzell each drove in three runs to lead Man to 12-0 win at Mingo Central Monday night.


Cooper struck out 15 of the 18 batters she faced and has thrown four perfect games and five no-hitters in her high school career.


Rozzell had four hits, including a double, drove in three runs and scored twice for Man while Jackson added two hits, one of which was a double, and drove in three runs for the Lady Hillbillies.


Peyton Lusk had two hits, scored two runs and drove in one while Kylie Blevins added two hits and one RBI. Maddie Carroll had two hits and scored two runs, Cooper had one hit and Trista Marcum scored three runs for Man.


Man scored four runs in the second inning and plated one run in the third, fourth and fifth innings and finished off the scoring with five runs in the sixth.


Audrey Plummer suffered the loss for Mingo Central after allowing 12 runs, only three earned, on 13 hits in six innings of work. Plummer struck out five and walked just one, however, the Lady Miners committed eight errors in the field.


Mingo Central (0-1) travels to Chapmanville Tuesday while Man (1-0) will play at Sherman on Thursday.


Logan 11, Pikeville (KY) 1: Logan (2-0) plated 10 runs in the fourth inning to break a 1-1 tie and defeat Pikeville (2-3) Monday night at Bea Orr Field.


The fourth inning outburst proved to be a momentum shift and the decisive factor in the five inning mercy-rule win over their Kentucky counterparts.

Kaylie Coleman scored on Taylor Noe’s single to start the scoring in the fourth giving Logan a 2-1 lead. Noe was just getting started and would put the finishing touches on the Lady Wildcats double digit run outburst.


Three batters later, Myleigh Adkins cleared the bases with a grand slam to put Logan up 6-1. Coleman had an RBI single and Addison Brumfield delivered a two-run single to make it 9-1. Noe cleared the bases with a two-run home run putting the caps on a 10-run, 10-hit inning.


Adkins retired the Lady Panthers in order in the top of the fifth to preserve the 10-run victory for Logan.


Charlie Albright got credit for the win in the circle after allowing one earned run on three hits while walking three and striking out four in four innings of work. Adkins struck out one in her one inning of relief.


Ginna Jones had a double and scored a run for Pikeville who also got a hit and one RBI from Cate Salyers and a single from Caroline Brown.


Isabelle Rose was saddled with the loss in the circle after allowing 11 runs- five earned – on hits in 3 2/3 innings. Rose walked two and hit one in the defeat.


Seven different Lady Wildcats had at least one hit, five players drove in at least one run and nine players scored at one run in the victory.


Adkins led Logan at the plate with four RBIs, Noe had two hits, scored twice and drove in three runs while Coleman added two hits and one RBI. Laci Curry had two hits and scored two runs, Isabella Propst contributed with two singles, Harlee Quick had one hit and Emilee Mullins drove in a run for the Lady Wildcats.
