Southern and UC join forces offering more student opportunities

Southern and the University of Charleston's presidents signed an agreement that allows Associate of Arts or Associate of Science degrees to transfer from Southern to UC's bachelor and master programs

LOGAN Southern West Virginia Community and Technical College has formed a new partnership with the University of Charleston to make it easier for Southern students to transfer into UC’s bachelor’s and master’s programs.

Southern President Doctor Pamela Alderman and UC President Doctor Martin Roth signed an articulation agreement allowing students with an Associate of Arts or Associate of Science degree from Southern to transfer their credits directly to UC.

The agreement aims to improve access to higher education in the region, giving Southern students a straightforward path to continue their education with additional support and resources. Transferring students will have access to academic advising, career services, and student organizations to enhance their university experience.

This is the second agreement Southern has recently entered into in order to expand the resources available to its students. On October second, Doctor Alderman and Marshall University President Doctor Brad Smith signed an affiliation agreement between the two schools. That agreement establishes a clear path for students at Southern to more easily continue their higher education at Marshall University.

Part of that agreement establishes a new program offered at Marshall University. The Bachelor of Applied Science degree serves to expand Southern’s Associate of Applied Science program, which is a two-year degree that focuses on technical skills and applied sciences. AAS programs are designed to prepare students to enter into specific fields within the workforce, such as accounting, computer networking or childcare. The technology and methods within those fields, however, are constantly changing.

Southern and the University of Charleston will also hold workshops and information sessions to guide students through the transfer process and ensure a smooth transition
