LOGAN Southern West Virginia Community and Technical College recognized as a 2024 "Great College to Work For"
The recognition placed Southern among an elite group of colleges, with only two institutions in West Virginia recognized this year. Southern is the only community college in the state to earn this distinction. The other Mountain State college recognized is the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine
Southern achieved recognition in two key categories: shared governance and faculty experience.
Dr. Pamela Alderman, President of Southern, said the recognition is a meaningful validation of the community they have cultivated at Southern.
“Our ongoing commitment is to create an environment that appreciates and supports everyone’s contributions to the college. Every member of our college community is essential in making this a great place to work,” Alderman said through a statement from Southern.
The Great Colleges to Work For® award selection process was highly competitive, with surveys conducted across 216 colleges and universities nationwide. Southern was one of only 75 institutions to be honored, with employee feedback playing a critical role. Additionally, the college's employment policies and practices were thoroughly evaluated, highlighting Southern’s dedication to fostering a supportive work environment.
According to Southern’s Director of Communication, Bill France said Southern has received this award a total of three times.
On a recent of addition of WVOW’s “What’s Your Opinion,” France said the every year is just as big as the first year Southern received the honor.
“In addition to being recognized on this national scale,” France said, “it really signals that Southern is indeed a great place to work. Great atmosphere. We have great people over here. We couldn’t be more thrilled to have this national recognition.”
The great colleges to work for program, was administered and analyzed by ModernThink, a strategic human capital consulting firm.
