
SWITZER A brush fire at Switzer on Monday is under investigation.
According to a post by the Main Island Creek Volunteer Fire Department, the fire was reported around five o’clock Monday evening in the community of Frogtown at Switzer. Crews said the fire spread out to a nearby resident’s hillside property and extended to include approximately 25 acres of forest property.
State Route 44 was closed for nearly three hours due to water supply hoses stretched across the roadway from the nearest hydrant.
No injuries reported from the scene.
The fire’s cause has been “determined to be intentional in nature.” Investigation is underway with the state Division of Forestry, West Virginia State Police and the state Fire Marshal’s Office.
According to the post from the Main Island Creek Volunteer Fire Department, a person of interest was identified and placed in custody,
Main Island Creek was assisted by the City of Logan Fire Department.
Logan County Code Enforcement was contacted to report abandoned dilapidated structures in the community that are fire hazards.
Logan Public Service District personnel also responded to assist with a broken hydrant discovered after the incident.
