Three Huskies rush for 100 yards in 41-7 win over shorthanded Tigers

CHAPMANVILLE Fueled by a trio of 100-yard rushers and a 27-point second half outburst, Class AAA No. 4 Herbert Hoover defeated a shorthanded Chapmanville Tigers squad 41-7 Friday night at Barker Stadium.


Devin Silvas ran for 123 yards and two touchdowns, Blake Fisher rushed for 112 yards and two scores and Dane Hatfield added 119 yards and one touchdown for the Huskies.


Playing without seven starters, Chapmanville hung tough with the Huskies trailing 14-0 at halftime and 21-7 when Andrew Topping scored the Tigers only touchdown with 5:17 to play in the third quarter.


Hatfield ran in from 22 yards out with five seconds remaining in the third to give Herbert Hoover a 27-7 lead. Hatfield hooked up with Sam Kee for a 42-yard touchdown pass in the fourth quarter and Silvas outran the Tigers defense for an 80-yard touchdown as the Huskies outscored the Tigers 27-7 in the second half to remain unbeaten and improve to 5-0.


The Huskies ran for 349 yards and added another 122 through the air to finish with 471 yards of total offense.


Hatfield completed 14 of 19 passes for 122 yards and one touchdown and one interception. Fisher caught eight passes for 96 yards and Kee had two receptions for 48 yards.


Topping rushed for 92 yards and caught four passes for 67 yards for the Tigers. Dakota Dalton was 7 of 16 passing for 118 yards and threw one interception.


The Huskies got on the scoreboard first when Fisher scored on a 45-yard run with 5:21 to play in the opening quarter. They added to their lead when Silvas scored on a 25-yard run with 10:56 to play before halftime to go ahead 14-0.


Fisher's second touchdown, a 52-yard run, put Herbert Hoover out in front 21-0 with 11:09 to play in the third quarter.


Herbert Hoover, which is off to a 5-0 start for the fifth time in school history, will host Class AA No. 7 Wayne.


Chapmanville, who has lost five straight games and is now 1-5 on the season, welcomes a much-needed bye week ahead of its game at Wayne on October 18.
