PORT ORANGE, FLA. Fairdale's Ferlandas Wright scored 22 of his game-high 31 points in the first half as the Bulldogs defeated Class AAA No. 5 Chapmanville 81-72 Saturday afternoon in the semifinals of the 34th annual Daytona Beach Sunshine Classic at Atlantic High School.
Wright was one of three players to reach double figures as the Bulldogs advanced to Monday's championship game at 4:30 p.m. versus Halls (Tennessee). The Red Devils defeated Sunland Baptist Academy, 66-62, in the other semifinal Saturday.
The Stingers, who hail from the Bahamas, will face Chapmanville for third-place Monday afternoon at noon.
Down three, 19-16, after one quarter, Chapmanville was outscored, 24-15, by Fairdale as Wright scored 11 points in the second quarter.
Chapmanville outscored Fairdale, 41-38, in the second half, but was unable to overcome a 12-point halftime deficit.
Joey Gollihue led Chapmanville (4-2) with 22 points. Dakota Dalton had 14, Jay Capers 12 and Keaton Terry 10 for the Tigers.
Kamari Roberts finished with 13, Jarel Butler 12 and Michael Ray Stinnett 11 for Fairdale (8-4).
