The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources reported 289 new cases of coronavirus in the state Monday.
There were no new deaths reported in the last 24 hours. Governor Justice reported 8 people died since his last press conference on virus response Friday.
W.Va. has 7,157 active cases of COVID-19. Today’s daily infection rate is 6.82%.
Justice continued to urge residents to get vaccinated and announced a plan to give $100 savings bonds to state residents between ages 16 and 35 who get vaccinated against COVID-19.
Bonds are typically purchased at significantly less cost than their eventual value but take many years to mature. Justice said the effort is meant to reach those of the population that resist getting vaccinated.
W.Va. has over 700,000 residents that have received their first shot of vaccine and near 560,000 people in the Mountain State are fully vaccinated
