CHARLESTON The United States Department of Agriculture approved a West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources request regarding benefits specifically for children.
The DHHR submitted the request for Pandemic Electronic Benefit Transfer benefits. The funding is intended for children younger than six already receiving Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefits.
Eligible children must reside in counties where the coronavirus pandemic impacted school operations.
Families of around 40,000 children will receive a letter about the benefits, according to the Department of Health and Human Resources Secretary Bill Crouch.
“There is not an application process for these benefits,” Crouch said Wednesday during the conference on coronavirus response.
The DHHR reports a qualified child will receive $22.44 for each qualifying month.
The payments will be issued in July and September.
