MAN   Kaiden Vance ran for four touchdowns and threw for another and Westside won a battle of 2-0 teams, defeating Man, 35-21, Friday night at William “Tootie” Carter Field at George A. Queen Memorial Stadium.

Vance rushed for 128 yards on 29 carries and scored on runs of 4, 4, 10 and 9 yards, but it was his 4-yard touchdown pass to Kyler Kenneda with 27 seconds in the third quarter that broke a 14-14 tie giving the Renegades a 21-14 lead.

Westside has won its first three games for the first time since 2014 and only the second time in school history. The Renegades, who snapped a five-game losing streak to the Hillbillies, have never started a season 4-0 and will look to do so with a win Friday night at home against winless PikeView.

Vance completed 23 passes, finishing 23 for 34 with 228 yards, while hooking up with five different receivers, three of which had five receptions or more.

Kenneda led the way with 88 yards on five receptions, Colton Lester hauled in seven passes for 69 yards and Austin Bishop had seven receptions for 44 yards for Westside.

Westside led 7-0 following Vance’s first 4-yard touchdown with 6:38 to play in the opening quarter, but Trey Ward electrified the home faithful with a 76-yard punt return that evened the score at 7 following Briar Harvey’s extra point with 2:27 in the first quarter.

Vance’s second 4-yard touchdown put Westside up 14-7 following Bishop’s extra point with 10:58 to play before halftime. Bishop was 5 for 5 on extra point attempts.

Man struck back with 4:32 to play before halftime when Dusten Baisden scored from 10-yards to even the score at 14.

Baisden carried the ball 16 times for 69 yards and two touchdowns to lead Man on the ground and Devon Sanders completed 6 of his 17 passes for 49 yards.

Man had opportunities to take the lead in the third quarter, however, the Hillbillies turned the ball over on downs twice inside Renegade territory and Ward fumbled inside the Westside 10.

Vance’s third touchdown, a 10-yard run with 10:48 to play in the fourth quarter, put the Renegades up 28-14, but Man answered with a Baisden 6-yard run to cut the gap to seven, 28-21, with 5:37 to play.

Vance iced the game for Westside with his 9-yard run with 1:48 to play to take a 35-21 lead.

Man (2-1) will be in action Friday night at Mingo Central.
