LOGAN It was a fitting end for a quartet of Logan High School seniors Monday night as the co-No. 5 Wildcats used a second quarter run to defeat the Wayne Pioneers 77-51 on Senior Night at the Willie Akers Arena.

Seniors Scotty Browning, Jarron Glick and Aiden Slack combined to score 57 points for the Wildcats while a fourth senior Garrett Williamson, who suffered a season-ending knee injury earlier in the year at Scott, got one final start on the famed hardwood at the Willie Akers Arena.

Williamson, who was on the floor with the ball in his hands after the Wildcats won the opening tipoff, was pulled from the floor three seconds into the game so he could get one final start as a Wildcat.

From there, the remaining seniors took over and combined to outscore the Pioneers through three and half quarters before being pulled in the fourth quarter with the game in hand.

Browning led the way with 32 points on 12 of 15 shooting from the floor. Jarron Glick, who didn’t even know if he would ever get to play competitive sports after having a cancerous brain tumor removed a year ago, posted a double-double finishing with 14 points and 12 rebounds while Aiden Slack, who was playing his second game of the year after suffering a knee injury in the Wildcats football playoff loss at Winfield, had 11 points, four rebounds, two assists and two steals.

Logan led 25-15 after one quarter of play before an 8-2 Wayne run cut the Wildcats advantage to just four, 27-23, after a Peyton Marcum 3-pointer with 5:14 to play before halftime.

From there the Wildcats took control ending the half on a 15-6 run to take 42-29 halftime lead. In the third quarter, Logan continued to ride that wave of momentum outscoring the Pioneers 21-9 in the quarter to take a 63-38 lead.

Logan led by as many as 31 points in the fourth quarter before a late Pioneer run set the final score.

Logan shot the ball particularly well, knocking down 32 of its 69 attempts from the floor while holding the Pioneers to 33.8% shooting (21 for 62) from the field. The Wildcats also had the edge in hustle categories, outrebounding Wayne 43-28, dishing out 14 assists, scoring 14 second chance points and also scored 17 points off 10 Wayne turnovers.

Isaac Meddings scored 16 points to lead Wayne in scoring. Peyton Marcum added eight and Cooper and Zane Adkins each had six for the Pioneers.

Wayne, now 6-14 on the year, will close out the regular season Thursday night at Class AA No. 10 Poca.

Ivan Miller added six points and nine rebounds for Logan while Derrick Browning had five and Julius Clancy four for the Wildcats.

Logan finishes the regular season with a 12-9 record and will host Wayne Tuesday night in the opening round of the Class AA Region 4 Section 2 tournament.

Scott is the top seed in the Region 4 Section 2 tournament and will host Lincoln County Tuesday night with the winners meeting Friday on the higher seeds court for the championship and the right to host one of two Region 4 co-finals.
