Wildcats drop fourth straight, fall on the road at AAA No.1 Shady Spring

SHADY SPRING   Jack Williams scored 18 points to lead Class AAA No. 1 Shady Spring to a 70-54 win over Class AA No. 5 Logan Wednesday night.


Williams was one of four double-figure scorers for Shady Spring, which won for the 60th time in its last 61 games at the Dave Willis Gym.


Jalon Bailey scored 17 points and Gabe Short came off the bench to contribute 13 points including a 40-foot 3-pointer just before the end of the first half buzzer to give the Tigers a four-point halftime advantage.


Eli Sexton also reached double figures with 10 points for Shady Spring, who improved to 17-3 overall.


Shady Spring controlled much of the first half, leading by as many as six points before Logan mounted a charge and took its first lead, 26-25, with 3:14 to play before halftime on Bentley Williamson's basket.


Logan led 28-25 after a Lucas Lambert free throw with 2:39 to play before halftime, but two technical free throws from Williams followed by a 3 gave Shady Spring a 30-28 lead.


Bailey knocked down two free throws with 0:00.8 seconds remaining before halftime to give the Tigers a 34-33 lead before Short stole the inbound pass just inside halfcourt and launched a 40-footer to put Shady Spring up 37-33 at halftime.


McCormick Ilderton led Logan with 14 points and Zayden Sherod had 13.


Logan (12-7) looks to snap a four-game losing streak Thursday night when they host Mingo Central.
