Wildcats share the wealth in blowout win over West Logan

LOGAN   Zayden Sherod led four Wildcats in double figures and Class AA No. 3 Logan defeated West Logan Christian Academy, 92-33, Friday night in the Willie Akers Classic at the Willie Akers Arena.

 

Sherod scored a game-high 23 points on 11 of 12 shooting from the field and pulled down six rebounds. Lucas Lambert scored 17 points to go along with seven rebounds and six assists. Ivan Miller had 16 points and seven rebounds while McCormick Ilderton posted a double-double finishing with 10 points and dishing out 12 assists for the Wildcats.

 

Logan (7-0) shot 51.9 percent from the field, outrebounded the smaller Warriors, 49-22, and assisted on 34 of 42 field goals.

 

The Wildcats limited West Logan (0-6) to 21.4 percent shooting from the field (15-for-70) and 9.1 percent from 3-point range (2-for-22).

 

Logan never trailed in the contest. After scoring the game’s first eight points in the first 3:08, the Wildcats outscored West Logan 15-4 the remainder of the first quarter and led 23-4 after one quarter of play.

 

Logan made 11 of its 15 shots in the first quarter and dished out 10 assists while holding West Logan to just 2 of 13 shooting.

 

The lead reached as high as 31 points in the second quarter when Ilderton scored to give the Wildcats a 41-10 lead.

 

West Logan caught fire in the final 2:21 of the second quarter, going on a 10-0 run to cut the deficit to 41-20 on a Jo Jo Bias basket with 0:38 remaining before Matt Hatfield ended the run with a basket with 0:08 remaining to give Logan a 43-20 halftime lead.

 

Hatfield scored just six points for Logan, but dished out a team-high 14 assists, hauled down a team-high eight rebounds, had four steals and blocked three of the Wildcats season-high nine shots.

 

The two schools traded baskets over the first 0:58 of the third quarter before Logan ended the quarter on a 28-0 run to increase its lead to 75-25 after three quarters.

 

Logan made 16 of its 20 shots in the third quarter including three dunks from Miller while limiting West Logan to 2 of 17 shooting in the frame.

 

The run was extended to 30-0 when Gage Green knocked down a pair of free throws with 7:51 to play in the fourth quarter. West Logan got a basket from Bias with 7:12 remaining to end the Wildcats spurt.


Logan led by as many as 62 in the fourth quarter and utilized its bench as 12 players earned playing time, and 10 of the 12 scored at least two points.


Bias and Chastin Stacey led West Logan Academy with nine points each.
