Williamson interim mayor resigns

WILLIAMSON  Mayor’s office in Williamson is becoming a revolving door as the city has had three this year and a fourth now to be decided on.

The Williamson City Council called a meeting Tuesday night following the resignation of Interim Mayor Joseph Bucci. The City’s attorney Nathan Brown said Bucci submitted the resignation earlier in the day and took effect immediately. Bucci had previously been appointed to the Mayor’s seat in the last three months. According to Brown, the resignation was for personal reasons.

Bucci’s elevation from the council to mayor came about after the resignation of the duly elected mayor, Charles Hatfield. That resignation from Hatfield was sparked by his guilty plea to federal embezzlement charges connected to his time as CEO of Williamson Memorial.

Following the Hatfield debacle, the City Clerk Alma Smith became the first female mayor in Williamson in the interim. Ultimately, Bucci was appointed to the position’s unexpired term. Now it seems the whole process will begin again.

Council members went into executive session, but no action was taken. The city council is scheduled to meet again Friday morning at nine o’clock.
