Woman arrested for allegedly stealing a car and driving on Hatfield-McCoy Trail

LOGAN  A woman with warrants out of Wyoming County was captured in Logan County after a cruise about in a stolen vehicle.


Police were initially called to a residence in the City of Logan early Saturday morning for an individual attempting to enter houses without permission. While speaking with the owner, police witnessed a Toyota Corolla backing out of a neighboring residence driveway on Elm Street and striking a wall.


Police attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the vehicle that accelerated to a high rate of speed and was swerving all over the road. A short pursuit suddenly became and an all-terrain experience as the driver of the Corolla entered the Hatfield-McCoy Trail from Cole Street. According to the criminal complaint filed in Logan County Magistrate Court, the vehicle was disabled about 150 yards up the trail with significant damage to the car.


Police located the defendant over the embankment of the trail. Police say 27-year-old Angel Joy Hunt, of Wharncliffe, was taken into custody after a brief struggle.


According to the complaint, police obtained video footage of Hunt entering the victims residence at Elm Street, taking the keys to the car and leaving in the vehicle.


Hunt had several warrants out for her arrest in Wyoming County for felony assault of a government employee and misdemeanor counts of obstructing. Bond was set at $5,000 cash only for the Wyoming charges.


For the Logan joy ride offenses, Hunt’s bond was set at $21,000 cash only for motor vehicle tampering, burglary, fleeing with reckless indifference and destruction of property.
